Key Responsibilities & Job Description 

The purpose of the job is to drive DIGITALEUROPE’s external and internal communication activities and to promote the advocacy positions and thoughtleadership activities.  

The Communications Director is responsible for the management of internal and external communications, press relations and events. The Director is a part of the management team and reports to and will work closely with the DirectorGeneral. 

  • Lead and implement an integrated communications strategy across all owned, earned and paid channels, aligning messaging with DIGITALEUROPE’s policy goals and business objectives.  
  • Identify media opportunities, cultivate relationships with the Brussels and international press corps, and serve as the association’s primary press contact  
  • Overall responsible for external communications: press releases, opinion piece, social media, publications, marketing materials and audiovisual content  
  • Lead, mentor and develop a highperforming team of four (communications officer, audiovisual expert, events manager and intern). 
  • Maximise visibility and impact around the DG’s external engagements. 
  • Ensure brand consistency across the association by maintaining uptodate templates, guidelines and promotional assets. 
  • Supervise the association’s socialmedia presence, setting KPIs, monitoring performance and optimising content to grow reach and engagement. 
  • Coordinate internal communications to members, including newsletters and briefing material. 
  • Oversee the delivery of flagship external and internal events, including Masters of Digital and the Summer Summit. 
  • With the Director for Business Development, shape and scale DIGITALEUROPE’s sponsorship programme and marketing partnerships to support events and campaigns. 
  • Establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of communications actions and report on outcomes to senior management. 

 

Key Requirements 

  • 10 years of relevant professional experience with proven experience in linking policy work and communications actions 
  • Outstanding written and spoken English – French proficiency is a big plus.  
  • Ability to drive fact-based argumentation and to advocate key policy messages  
  • Extensive network of international press corps in Brussels and beyond (you may be a journalist with broader skills and experience) 
  • Proven experience in working with the EU: extensive network in EU institutions and a thorough understanding of EU policy-making  
  • A profound interest in digitalisation and the digital industry 
  • Experience working in international environments 
  • Event management experience  
  • Excellent organisational, networking and interpersonal skills 
  • Proven track record in managing small to mid-sized teams  
  • Willingness and availability to travel from time to time  
  • Structured and a strong executor
